Back Brace

The objective of this project is to adapt the back brace to the human body and personality of the user. The design of back braces has traditionally focused on addressing medical needs, overlooking the user’s style and taste. Since the users are often children and teenagers, it is important to let them choose the look of their back braces.

Through 3D printing, this project seeks to fabricate and customize back braces in a way that is easy, fast and cost-effective, while making it something that the user would be proud to wear. The body of the user is 3D scanned and a medical professional decides on the right shape to correct the curvature of the spine. Then, the designer works with the user to incorporate their style and priorities and a 3D model of the back brace is generated.
